Sowball sample

Definition:

Normally used for hard-to-find populations. Initial respondents are selected through a particular sampling method and referrals are recruited during the interview. For example, you wish to interview individuals who live in log cabins, so during the interview with the qualified respondent you ask for names of others they know who live in log cabins.
